A point-and-click adventure game
is one where the player typically controls their character by moving a cursor on the game screen (rather than the player character directly) and pressing an action button (typically
) to interact with objects. The player typically clicks to move their character around, interact with non-player characters, often initiating conversation trees with them, examine objects in the game's settings or with their character's item inventory. These games often are puzzle games
, and very rarely contain any form of combat. They often use static (or mostly static) 2D artwork for the backgrounds that characters are placed on top of.
These games can often be completed very easily by following a guide, and thus have quick and easy trophy lists. They also typically have numerous missable trophies that can only be earned at very specific times in the game's storyline, making guide use even more desirable.
