Luck-based trophy

A trophy is said to be luck-based if the means for unlocking it is based on chance, rather than player skill. Typically these trophies require the player to perform some (often monotonous) task over and over in hopes of triggering the desired in-game state. For example, the player might need a specific item to drop from an enemy, but it only drops once per 200 of those enemies that are killed. Even more clear-cut examples include things like trophies being awarded for winning a jackpot in casino games.

On this wiki, luck-based trophies are indicated by the Luck icon.png icon.

Notable examples of luck-based trophiesEdit

Here we list the most well-known and most extreme luck-based trophies that exist. For a more complete list of all luck-based trophies, see Category:Luck-based trophies.

This game has a slot machine game mode, and the Lucky Spin (silver) trophy originally required the player to spin 3 diamonds on the slot machine—a result that is so rare that it often takes 10 hours or more of grinding before it occurs. This trophy was later patched to instead only require a spin of 3 of a kind (i.e., any 3 matching symbols on the slot machine, not necessarily diamonds).

The Zockerkönig (bronze) requires you to play a certain dice-based mini-game (which you have no control over and appears about 1 in every 20 games), win that game (which is completely random, and has about 1/2 chance of happening), and never roll a 6 on the dice throughout that mini-game (which typically lasts 14 or 15 rolls).

This is a Japanese pachinko (i.e., slot machine) game, and its ブランク図柄集合 (gold) trophy has a 1 in 20,000,000 chance of unlocking on any given spin (no, that is not an exaggeration), making this the single most luck-based trophy that exists.

The Instant Millionaire! (gold) trophy requires the player to win the game's $1,000,000 prize. To do so, the player must land on the "$1 Million" wedge during the main game, correctly guess a letter to pick it up, then avoid "Bankrupt" wedges for the rest of the game, win the game to make it to the Bonus Round, and win the Bonus Round puzzle. Then, after doing all of that, there is a 1/24 chance that they player will win the $1,000,000 prize and unlock this trophy.
