Super Stardust Ultra is a PlayStation 4 re-release and enhancement of Super Stardust HD, a twin-stick arcade shooter originally released for the PlayStation 3. It features 5 slightly different planets making up the main game mode than Super Stardust HD, and it also has the three new "Time Attack", "Impact", and "Blockade" game modes. Although it is the third Super Stardust game to have trophies, it is the first to have a platinum trophy. It has one downloadable content package, and is available for the Playstation Now streaming service.

RoadmapEdit

Step 1: Play through Arcade Mode on Normal difficultyEdit

By playing through Arcade mode, you will unlock the five trophies Hero of Logi (bronze), Hero of Horagalles (bronze), Hero of Boreas (bronze), Hero of Ploutos (bronze), and Hero of Ogoun (gold). You will almost definitely also earn Bonus! (bronze) in the process. You may also earn another miscellaneous trophy or two as well.

Completing the game on Normal difficulty (instead of Easy difficulty) is required to unlock all levels in split-screen co-op, which we must do in preparation for Brothers In Arms (silver). You only actually have to complete the first four levels on Normal difficulty; the final level can be completed on Easy difficulty if you have trouble with it.

Step 2: Arcade Mode cleanup on Easy difficultyEdit

Now go back and start Arcade Mode on Easy difficulty, and get the remaining miscellaneous arcade mode trophies, focusing your attention on Shield Blaster (silver) and Multiplier Hero (silver), as these are the most difficult Arcade Mode trophies. In this step, you will earn:

(bronze)The Tokenizer
(bronze)Scrooge MacBoom
(silver)Token Hoarder
(silver)Well Prepared
(silver)Shield Blaster
(silver)Scenic Route
(silver)Multiplier Hero
(silver)Maximum Firepower
(silver)Engine Malfunction
(bronze)Bonus!
(bronze)Survivor

Step 3: Other game modesEdit

The remaining trophies can be done in almost any order, so just pick a game mode and get all trophies in that game mode, and then move onto another game mode. See the individual trophy guides for instructions for how to obtain each trophy. Here is a breakdown of which trophies are earned in which game mode:

After completing all of the above trophies, you will earn your shiny new platinum trophy, which is sadly just named Platinum (platinum).

Arcade - Complete planet Logi

Simply play arcade mode (not planet mode) on any difficulty. You can play on Easy, but you will eventually need to play on Normal difficulty for Brothers In Arms (silver) anyway. Planet Logi is the first level of this game, so you will earn this trophy after beating the first stage (which consists of 4 "phases" plus a boss phase). The boss can be defeated by destroying its four blue glowing areas. Note that this level is a good place to try for Scenic Route (silver) and Survivor (bronze).

Arcade - Complete planet Horagalles

Simply play arcade mode (not planet mode) on any difficulty. Planet Horagalles is the second level of this game, so you will earn this trophy after beating the second level (which consists of 4 "phases" plus a boss). The boss can be defeated by destroying the red glowing spot at its center – you have to be fairly close to it to hit it.

Note that you should be using the Gold Melter (red) weapon throughout most of the level, including the boss fight. Press "L1" or "R1" to change your weapon.

Arcade - Complete planet Boreas

Simply play arcade mode (not planet mode) on any difficulty. Planet Boreas is the third level of this game, and you will earn this trophy after beating that level, which consists of 4 "phases" plus a boss. This level is quite short, so you shouldn't have much trouble it it, and it is a good place to try for Scenic Route (silver) or Survivor (bronze). The boss of this level is just two of the boss from Level 1: Logi, and the same strategy applies (shoot them in their four blue glowing spots).

Note that you should be using the Ice Breaker (blue) weapon throughout most of the level. Press "L1" or "R1" to change your weapon.

Arcade - Complete planet Ploutos

Simply play arcade mode (not planet mode) on any difficulty. Planet Ploutos is the fourth level of this game, and you will earn this trophy after beating that level, which consists of 4 "phases" plus a boss. This is one of the longer and more difficult levels in the game, so just focus on staying alive; don't worry too much about other trophies. The boss of this level is just two of the boss from Level 2: Horagalles, and the same strategy applies (shoot them in their center red spot, preferably with the Gold Melter (red) weapon).

You'll have to switch your weapon a fair bit throughout this level to be effective. Press "L1" or "R1" to change your weapon.

Arcade - Complete planet Ogoun

Simply play arcade mode (not planet mode) on any difficulty. This is the one planet in the game that you never have to beat on Normal difficulty; Easy difficulty on this level suffices as far as trophies are concerned. Planet Ogoun is the fifth and final level of the game, and you will earn this trophy after beating that level, which consists of 4 "phases" plus a boss. Not surprisingly, this level is the hardest of the game, and you will have to switch your weapons frequently to be effective. The boss of this level is also a large step up in difficulty from the previous bosses. While fighting the boss, the biggest worry is the homing missiles that it shoots at you – the Gold Melter (red) weapon is by far the best way to destroy them. Unfortunately, asteroids never stop falling throughout the duration of the boss fight, so you will be on your toes the whole time.

Arcade - Collect 15 tokens with a single boost

To earn this trophy, you must boost (press "L2") through 15 powerup tokens at once. The simplest way to do this is to spawn a bonus asteroid (see Bonus! (bronze)) and then boost through the center of it. Make sure you do not shoot the bonus asteroid first, as this will cause the tokens to disperse.

Arcade - Get 20 bombs

Play arcade mode (not planet mode) on Easy difficulty and you shouldn't have much trouble getting this trophy. Approximately once per phase, there will be a large ship with a green capsule on either side of it. Each of those capsules drops an orange bomb powerup for you if you destroy it, meaning that you can earn about 2 bombs per phase. Pressing the "R2" button uses a bomb, so never press that button. If you never use any bombs and you start from Level 1: Logi, you should earn Scrooge MacBoom (bronze) early in Planet 2: Horagalles and you should earn this trophy around the end of Planet 3: Boreas or the start of Planet 4: Ploutos.

Shield Blaster
Shield Blaster Shield Blaster [add/edit tips]
Arcade - Collect 5 shield tokens while already having a shield

To make this easier on yourself, play arcade mode on Easy difficulty. Start from Planet 1: Logi and collect shields and each and every opportunity. While you can die without voiding the trophy, this does have to be done on a single playthrough of arcade mode. Because the shield token drop rate is so low, this means that you really don't want to die (or at least don't die more than once) or else you likely won't find enough shields by the end of Planet 5: Ogoun.

Whenever you see a Ship token, make sure that you do not pick it up. If you wait a few seconds, it will "downgrade" to a shield token. It is also quite natural to attempt Multiplier Hero (silver) at the same time as this trophy. Unfortunately, this trophy can be a bit random and difficult to obtain due to the infrequency and randomness with which shield tokens drop. It is believed that they drop more frequently if you kill enemies, destroy obstacles, and acquire points very quickly.

Multiplier Hero
Multiplier Hero
Multiplier Hero Multiplier Hero [add/edit tips]
Arcade - Get 10x multiplier

As you collect points in the game, your multiplier increases. It starts at 1x, then quickly becomes 2x, and so on, up to 10x. You must get your multiplier all the way up to 10x. The problem is that your multiplier resets to 1x every time you die. So to earn this trophy, you must stay alive for a long time.

Start Arcade Mode at Planet 1: Logi. To get a 10x multiplier, you will have to earn a lot of points (the exact number of points you need varies; if you get points very rapidly then your multiplier increases faster). The earliest you can get this trophy is around the end of Planet 3: Boreas, though you might not get it until near the end of Planet 4: Ploutos. You can not die that entire time, which means you will earn Survivor (bronze) along the way. To make this easier, make sure to fully upgrade your weapons as early as possible (especially the Gold Melter (red) weapon). Also, make sure that you have a shield whenever possible. If you see a yellow "Ship" powerup, wait a few seconds for it to "downgrade" into a pink "Shield" powerup. This is essentially the same strategy that should be used for Shield Blaster (silver), and these two trophies can be attempted at the same time.

Endless - Survive 7 minutes without dying

Select the "Endless" singleplayer game mode. In this mode, randomly-generated waves of enemies and asteroids are thrown at you non-stop until you die. This trophy is extremely difficult to obtain "legitimately", but there is a simple way to earn it. Every now and then, a nuke is placed on the planet. If you shoot this nuke enough (or boost through it), it explodes, destroying everything on the planet. After this happens, a new random wave will drop. Every now and then, this wave will consist of a circle of indestructible blue asteroids together with a group of red triangular enemies that follow you around. If you get this wave of enemies, don't kill any of them; just run away from the triangular enemies until 7 minutes have passed, and no new enemies will spawn.

Note that the enemies get faster and faster as time goes on, so you will eventually have to use boost ("L2") to get away from them.

Survival - Survive 45 seconds without shooting or using bombs

For this trophy, play the Survival single-player mode. You cannot use a weapon with the right analog stick or drop any bombs with "R2". You can, however, boost with "L2". Since you are invincible while boosting (and for about a second after the boost ends), it is highly recommended that you boost if you get in a tight spot.

It is important to note that you must survive for 45 real seconds, not until the timer at the top-right corner of the screen says "0:45". If you pick up a Time token in the game then the timer at the top-right will advance by 2 seconds, but that will not help you out for this trophy. For example, if you pick up 2 Time tokens, you won't unlock this trophy until the timer at the top-right corner says "0:49".

Also note that the green asteroids in the level sometimes (rarely!) drop shield tokens, which can be a huge help when attempting this trophy. Try boosting through the first 2 or 3 green asteroids that drop, and you may get lucky.

Bomber - Get 13 bombs

In the single-player Bomber game mode, the player can use bombs with "R2", but they are not able to use regular weapons at all. Because this trophy requires you to have 13 bombs at once, this means that you have to use bombs to blow up ships to get more bombs. Each ship you blow up drops 2 bombs, so you use 1 bomb to get 2 bombs.

The strategy here is to not use bombs right away when you see a ship. Instead, follow it around and hope that it gets close to another ship. If you are able to destroy 2 ships with a single bomb, you get 4 bombs in exchange for using 1, which is enough to get you this trophy. Following the ships around is a good thing to do anyway, since they clear a path for you through the asteroids.

Endless - Destroy 10 nukes

When playing single-player Endless mode, every now and then a nuke will drop on the planet (it is a large stationary object that looks like a warhead). Destroying the nuke will destroy all enemies and obstacles on the planet, starting the next wave of Endless mode (one easy way to destroy a nuke is to boost through it with "L2"). You have to do this 10 times in a single playthrough of Endless mode. You can die, but you can not run out of extra ships.

This is probably the hardest trophy in the game, and unlike Extra Ships Optional (gold), there is no "trick" to making this trophy easier. Make sure you destroy nukes as soon as they appear, because the game gets more difficult as more time goes by. Other than that, just practice, practice, practice, and apply everything you have learned while playing all other game modes (pick up shields and extra ships whenever you can, upgrade your weapons, make good use of the Gold Melter, and so on).

Split screen Co-op Ogoun - Get 3 minutes of continuous Co-Op weapon boost
Multi icon.png multiplayer
Controllers icon.png 2 controllers

Before you can even attempt this trophy, you must first clear the first four planets of the game on Normal difficulty (you can either play these four planets in single-player or split-screen co-op). This is because single-player Easy difficulty does not unlock the planets in split-screen co-op, but single-player Normal difficulty does.

Once you have cleared the first four planets, the fifth planet, Ogoun, will be available to play in split-screen co-op. Once you start the level, you will notice an energy beam linking your two ships. Simply stay still and keep your ships close to each other so that the beam does not disappear for three minutes. Do not shoot enemies or obstacles, as this will cause more enemies and obstacles to appear. Just stay still as much as possible, and move out of the way when necessary. It is very possible to do this by yourself with two controllers.

30s Impact Boost
30s Impact Boost
30s Impact Boost 30s Impact Boost [add/edit tips]
Impact - Boost continuously for 30 seconds

In the single-player Impact game mode, you are able to boost with "L2", but you cannot attack normally nor can you drop bombs. Your boost is also much more effective in this game mode: if you boost through an enemy or an obstacle, your boost meters fills slightly. Your goal is to boost through enemies and obstacles continuously for 30 seconds so that your boost meter doesn't run out during that time.

The Impact level comes in "waves" (just like Endless mode), with each wave ending with a nuke that destroys everything on the planet. Aim to get this trophy during the first wave - don't kill anything for the first minute or so, and then boost when there are lots of enemies and obstacles on screen. When the first nuke arrives, make sure you avoid it – if you hit it, it will destroy everything on the planet, so you will have no more enemies or obstacles to keep your boost meter full with.

Also make sure that you do not make any sharp turns while boosting, as they drain your boost meter very quickly. Slow, gradual turns are OK, and one of the most effective strategies is to make (large) circles, rather than going in a straight line.

Have all weapons at 200% power simultaneously

It is recommended that you earn this trophy in arcade mode, and you can do it on Easy difficulty if you prefer. As you play the game, you will see many red, green, and blue weapon powerups. Whenever you collect one of these powerups, a percentage will be displayed onscreen that displays the strength of the weapon whose powerup you just obtained (green = Rock Crusher, red = Gold Melter, blue = Ice Splitter). Once one weapon gets up to 100%, stop collecting powerups for it, and instead collect powerups for the other weapons (the weapon powerups change type if you simply wait before picking them up).

Once a weapon is at 100% power, picking up another powerup will push it up to 200% power for a limited time (and then it reverts back to 100%). Thus, after all three weapons are at 100% power, you want to pick one of each weapon powerup (red, green, and blue) within a short timespan. Doing so will push them all up to 200% power and unlock this trophy.

Arcade - Complete a wave without moving or dying

You can fire your weapon with the right analog stick and drop bombs with "R2", but you cannot move with the left analog stick or boost with "L2". Simply play arcade on Easy difficulty, and start at Planet 1: Logi. Use the Gold Melter (red) weapon to kill enemies and asteroids that are close to you, and use the Ice Splitter (blue) weapon to destroy far-away objects. Use a bomb if things get really hectic near you (you start with 3 bombs, which is more than enough).

The trophy unlocks after you finish Phase 1 of the level (you do not have to complete the whole level). See the following video guide:

Arcade - Get your first bonus asteroid cluster

In most levels, at some point you will see an asteroid fall that doesn't just have the usual red warning circle under it, but has a red hexagon under it with the number "16" inside it. Destroying this asteroid quickly enough will cause a similar "15" asteroid to fall. Repeating this procedure all the way down to the "1" asteroid will cause a bonus asteroid to fall, which drops over a dozen powerups and unlocks this trophy.

If you're having trouble finding a bonus asteroid, one falls early in Phase 1 of Planet 2: Horagalles. See Token Hoarder (silver) for another trophy you should keep in mind when you see bonus asteroids.

Time Attack - Complete a planet in under 5 minutes

Play time attack mode and select Planet 1: Logi. You have to complete the level with the timer below 5:00. Here are some tips:

  • Use your Rock Crusher (green) weapon exclusively.
  • Upgrade your Rock Crusher weapon as early as possible.
  • Do not die. Dying increases your timer by a whopping 3 minutes, which effectively voids this trophy.
  • Don't go too far out of your way for the light blue "Time" tokens. They only take 0.19 seconds off of your timer, which is likely less than the amount of time it takes you to get to them.

Blockade - Survive for 90 seconds without boosting or bombing

For this trophy, you must play the single-player blockade game mode. In this mode, a wall of asteroids constantly forms behind you, meaning you must keep on moving. Furthermore, this wall cannot be broken by regular weapons; only by bombs. Since you are not allowed to use bombs (or boost) while attempting this trophy, the wall is essentially unbreakable.

At the start, simply go around in a spiral so that the wall of asteroids takes up as little space as possible. Later on, when more obstacles are present, instead just focus on staying alive. You must stay alive for 90 seconds to unlock this trophy. This is fairly challenging, so it may take a few tries. If you see a shield powerup, then make sure you grab it, as they are absolutely invaluable when attempting this trophy. If you see another shield powerup, then even better, because picking it up acts as a bomb, blowing up everything near you (including the indestructible asteroid wall), but does not void the trophy.
