Root Letter (often stylized as √Letter) is a visual novel developed by Kadokawa Games with a quick and easy trophy list. The player must figure out what happened to a girl named Aya, who mysteriously vanished after receiving a particular letter. The gameplay is split into two distinct parts: the adventure part, where the player interrogates characters who knew Aya in order to find more information about her, and the simulation parts, where the player relives and plays through prior interactions with Aya. It has 5 different endings, and trophies associated with finding each of them.

It is notable for the fact that it has a whopping 10 trophy lists, allowing you to platinum it repeatedly by buying the game from different regions.

RoadmapEdit

Step 1: Play through the game, getting whichever ending you preferEdit

You're going to have to play through the game five times, so you might as well not worry about trophies during your first playthrough. Just make whatever choices you like – no particular set of choices in this playthrough will really affect how long it takes you to platinum the game. In this step, you will earn at least the following storyline trophies:

(bronze)Welcome to Shimane!  unmissable
(bronze)Ghostly Penpal  unmissable
(bronze)Dragonfly Stationery  unmissable
(bronze)Banana Stationery  unmissable
(bronze)Candy Stationery  unmissable
(bronze)Gal Stationery  unmissable
(bronze)Ginger Stationery  unmissable
(bronze)Gnome Stationery  unmissable
(bronze)Magatama Stationery  unmissable

You will also earn at least 2 more trophies for choosing a particular ending.

Step 2: Get a second ending and the missable trophyEdit

Next, play through the game again, with two goals in mind:

  • On your first playthrough, you got one of 3 possible ending trophies: Airplane Stationery (silver), Princess Stationery (silver), or Skull Stationery (silver). This time, follow the guide for either of the other two trophies (it does not matter which one) to make sure you get a different ending in this playthrough.
  • The game has one missable trophy: Found SHIMANEKKO! (gold). You should get it out of the way during this playthrough so that you don't have to worry about it later (it conflicts with one of the endings that we will go for in the next step).

Step 3: The three other endingsEdit

Now play the game three more times to earn whichever 3 of the 5 ending trophies you have not yet obtained: Cherry Blossom Stationery (silver), Airplane Stationery (silver), Princess Stationery (silver), Skull Stationery (silver), and/or Alien Stationery (silver). While going for these additional endings, you will also naturally unlock Finding the Truth! (gold) and Got All Investigation Items (gold) without trying.

Step 4: Clean-upEdit

The only trophies that you might not yet have are Strolling Around Shimane (silver), Checking on Shimane (gold), and LetterMania (gold), which you should go back and get now. You will then have your shiny new platinum: √Letter (platinum).
