Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is a visual novel and sequel to Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. This game has an extremely similar trophy list to its prequel, requiring the player to play through the main game, followed by several playthroughs of a short resource-gathering minigame (called "Island Mode") and vending machine grinding. This game also introduces another minigame, called "Magical Miracle Girl Monami", in which the player battles several waves of monsters, collecting items that drop from those monsters along the way. Due to the extra (quite grindy) minigame and the more challenging main game, this game's platinum is slightly more difficult and time-consuming than that of its predecessor, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. Its sequel is Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony.

RoadmapEdit

Step 1: Play through the gameEdit

For this step, you want to have Action Difficulty set to "Kind" or "Mean" (Logic Difficulty doesn't matter). You need to choose one of these two Action Difficulty levels to be able to get Blowin' Through My Screen (bronze) and The Airborne Static Event (silver), but otherwise there are no difficulty-related trophies. There are no missable trophies either, so you can just play through the game without a guide (or, if you need a guide, here is a good walkthrough on GameFAQs). Optionally, you may collect the hidden Monokuma dolls during this step (see I Should Start a Circus (silver)), but their locations do contain mild spoilers. You may also want to avoid spending many Monocoins during this playthrough, as this will help towards The 1 Percent (bronze) and make Step 2 (below) shorter.

In this step, you will earn the following trophies (and likely at least a couple others):

(bronze)Murderous Marooning  unmissable
(bronze)Dead Man's Party  unmissable
(bronze)Death, Lies, and Video Games  unmissable
(bronze)Is It Medicine or Social Skill?  unmissable
(bronze)Bred for Destruction  unmissable
(bronze)Abandon All Hope  unmissable
(gold)Goodbye Academy of Despair  unmissable

Step 2: Get money and presentsEdit

If you didn't spend many coins during Step 1, you should have anywhere from 500 to 800 Monocoins right now. You want to get 999 Monocoins (for The 1 Percent (bronze)), and to do this I recommend fully raising a pet or two (see Gotta Raise 'Em All! (silver)). This requires some grinding, but it gives you a few hundred Monocoins per pet, and you have to do this eventually anyway.

Once you have 999 Monocoins, buy everything from both vending machines (see A Fool and His Money... (bronze) and For the Hoard (silver)).

In this step, you will earn the following trophies:

(bronze)The 1 Percent
(bronze)Look at This Stuff, Isn't it Neat?  collectible
(bronze)Hey, Big Vendor
(bronze)A Fool and His Money...  collectible

Step 3: Fill in every report cardEdit

Now start playing Island Mode (if you haven't already). You get some free time during every single day of this mode. During this free time, choose "Go meet with someone" when it asks you what you want to do. Then talk to a someone and choose "Spend time together". When given the option, choose "Definitely!" to give them a present (see each individual character's trophy for a list of which presents they like). Repeat this until the report cards of all 15 characters are filled (each character's report card has 6 hope fragments – you can see your progress by pressing "S" to bring up the menu and selecting "Report Card").

In this step, you will earn the following trophies:

(bronze)Hope Springs Eternal
(bronze)Overlord's Vassal
(bronze)Grease Monkeying Around
(bronze)The Game Hungers for Seconds...and Thirds
(bronze)Cooking With Passion
(bronze)Caught in a Rad Bromance
(bronze)Honor and Humanity
(bronze)Starving for Affection
(bronze)Co-Op Partner
(bronze)A Royal Affair
(bronze)It's Lolita Complicated
(bronze)Picture Perfect
(bronze)Helloooooooooooooooo Nurse!
(bronze)Dynamic Duet
(bronze)Feudal Friendship
(gold)Mr. Congeniality

Step 4: Clean up Island ModeEdit

You will now have to do at least 3 more full Island Mode playthroughs, with your aim being Life's a Real Beach (silver).

Step 5: Get the two Magical Miracle Girl Monami trophiesEdit

Now get A Magical Ending (bronze) and Monomi Won't Miss These, Right? (gold).

Step 6: Clean upEdit

Finally, go back and get any miscellaneous trophies that you don't have yet, like This Belongs in a Museum! (silver).

Filled in every page of every character's Report Card

To fill in a character's report card, choose to spend time with them and give them presents during free time in Story Mode and Island Mode (realistically, almost all of your progress toward this trophy will be done in Island Mode). Each character's report card has 6 hope fragments – you can see your progress by pressing "S" to bring up the menu and selecting "Report Card". See the 15 character-specific trophies for descriptions of which presents each character likes most. If you don't have any of the presents that they really like, just give them a Mineral Water (can be bought for 1 Monocoin from the Vending Machine).

Collected 999 Monocoins

You likely won't earn enough Monocoins during Story Mode to unlock this trophy, but fortunately your Monocoins are shared between all game modes (Story Mode, Island Mode, etc.). You earn Monocoins from completing class trials, fully evolving pets, and from completing all tasks in Island Mode. Thus you can easily earn this trophy on your way to Gotta Raise 'Em All! (silver) and/or Life's a Real Beach (silver).

Collected every possible present

There are 140 different presents in this game, and you must obtain at least 1 of each of them. To obtain each of these presents, you will have to do each of the following:

  • From the main menu, go to Extras -> Monomono Yachine and keep using the vending machine until the "Repeat Rate" at the top-left corner of the screen says 100.00%. Just keep spending 1 coin at a time until the repeat rate is very high (90% or higher). Then save your game and put in a large amount of coins, hoping to get a new present. If you don't get a new present, reload your save and try again. This is where you will earn the majority of presents (114 of them, to be exact). You will earn Look at This Stuff, Isn't it Neat? (bronze) and Hey, Big Vendor (bronze) while doing this.
  • Complete the game's story mode (and hence earn Goodbye Academy of Despair (gold)).
  • Complete all characters' report cards (and hence earn Mr. Congeniality (gold)).

Found every Hidden Monokuma

There are 30 Monokuma dolls hidden throughout the game; 5 in each chapter. The first one is introduced to you as part of the story, early-on in Chapter 1. The locations of the 30 dolls are provided below:

Spoiler: Monokuma doll locations (mild storyline spoilers)
Chapter 1
  • Hajime's Cottage: Upper-right corner of the cottage, above the surveillance camera. Unmissable (required to progress the story).
  • Airport: Right-hand side, on the moving conveyor belt.
  • Rocketpunch Market: To the right of the vending machine (hidden behind a shelf; you may have to move the camera).
  • Hotel Site's Old Building – Office: Lower-left corner of the bookshelf. Can only be found after progressing the storyline a bit in the chapter.
  • Byakuya's Cottage: The left-hand side. Can only be found during the investigation.

Chapter 2

  • Drugstore: On the far right-hand side (you will probably have to move the camera).
  • Library: Upper-right corner, on the balcony.
  • Chandler Beach: The left side, on the water.
  • Beach House – Closet: Very high on the left wall. Can only be found during the investigation.
  • Mahiru's Cottage: Behind the TV. Can only be found during the investigation.

Chapter 3

  • Movie Theatre: Wall on the right-hand side.
  • Electric Ave.: Top-left corner of the area.
  • Motel – Guest Room: On top of the toilet (you have to move the camera to the right). Can only be found during the investigation.
  • Hospital – Hallway (1F): Through one of the windows on the right (he looks like a ghost).
  • Hospital – Conference Room (2F): In the middle of the ceiling.

Chapter 4

  • Rollercoaster: On the rollercoaster. Can only be found in the first half of the chapter.
  • Nezumi Castle: On the left wall. Can only be found in the first half of the chapter.
  • Strawberry House (2F) – Standard Room: Behind the desk.

  • Vendor Street: Just to the right of the center area.
  • Monokuma Plushie Factory: Standing on the top-right side of the big basket. Can only be found in the first half of the chapter.
  • Military Base: At the top-left corner.
  • Sea King Industries: On the catwalk on the right side.
  • Nagito's Cottage: In the bathroom on the right (you will have to move the camera around).

Chapter 6 (warning: you must get these in the order listed below, the first time you enter each room, or you will have to re-play part of the chapter)

  • Room 1-A (classroom where you start the chapter): On the ceiling beams.
  • Gymnasium: Left side.
  • Teacher's Lounge: Right side, under a metal plate.
  • Room 2-B (the laundry room): On the right side, next to a machine.

Fully raised one type of pet

Gotta Raise 'Em All!
Gotta Raise 'Em All! Gotta Raise 'Em All! [add/edit tips]
Fully raised every type of pets

To view your pet, press "S" and select "Pet" from the menu. To raise a pet, you have to do two things: walk and clean it. Walking around raises your pet's level, and cleaning it (press "S" when viewing your pet) prevents its Despair meter from filling (if its Despair meter reaches 10, the pet dies).

Your pet levels up as follows:

  • Egg → 100 steps → Baby
  • Baby → 1000 steps → Cocoon
  • Cocoon → 100 steps → Adult (one of six types)
  • Ault → 2000 steps → Fully raised

So to fully raise a pet, you need to take 3200 steps (a total of 19200 steps for all six pets, so you will earn Walking the Walk (bronze) and Nice Calves (silver) along the way). Which of the six types of adult pets you get depends on the pet's Hope and Despair meters when it enters its cocoon. Values that lead to each pet type are as follows:

  • Usami: 10 hope, 0 despair
  • Gorimi: 6 - 9 hope, 0 despair
  • Porkimi: 2 - 5 hope, 0 despair
  • Snakimi: 0 hope, 2 - 5 despair
  • Shitimi: 0 hope, 6 - 9 despair
  • Monokuma: 10 hope, 6 - 9 despair

To raise a pet's hope level, give it a gift (just give it Mineral Water (#1), which can be bought for 1 Monocoin from the vending machine). To raise its despair level, just don't clean it.

Cleared Island Mode once

You will earn this trophy after completing Island Mode (i.e., getting to day 51) after completely filling all 15 report cards (i.e., after earning Mr. Congeniality (gold)). You do not have to complete all (or any) of the Monomi tasks in order to earn this trophy – Island Mode continues on to day 51 regardless.

Life's a Real Beach
Life's a Real Beach Life's a Real Beach [add/edit tips]
Saw every possible Island Mode ending

This is probably the most time-consuming trophy in the game, and will require at least 3 full playthroughs of Island Mode, completing each and every one of Monomi's tasks (if you fail to complete a task, you will have to do a fourth playthrough of Island Mode). This is because you earn Trip Tickets for completing tasks, and these are what you need to use to unlock the 15 character-specific endings (you should be aiming to earn 5 of these endings per playthrough).

To unlock a character-specific ending, you have to have an affection level of 10 hearts with that character. To increase a character's affection level, go somewhere with that character (with a Trip Ticket) in free time. You will then have a choice of where to go with that character, and then you will either be asked a question or you will have to do a short bullet game (similar to the Class Trials in Story Mode). If you choose the best answers, each Trip Ticket will give you 1 heart of affection. Thus you have to use 10 Trip Tickets to maximize a character's affection. You can view the affection of each character by talking to Usami in free time.

On day 51, after Island Mode ends, you will be given the option of talking to every character that you have full affection with. Make sure you talk to them all and answer the question that they ask correctly. A complete guide for each character follows:

Hajime Hinata breaks through level 99

Almost everything in the game earns you experience: finding pieces of evidence in Story Mode, finding hidden Monokumas (see I Should Start a Circus (silver)), leveling pets up to maximum level (see Gotta Raise 'Em All! (silver)), and even just walking/running (see Nice Calves (silver)). You will not reach level 99 during Story Mode, but your level persists into Island Mode as well, and this trophy will almost definitely come naturally while going for other trophies. If it doesn't, just walk around is Island Mode or Story Mode until you reach level 99.

As you walk around the game world in Story Mode and Island Mode, all of your steps are counted (you can see how many steps you have taken so far by viewing your pet in the menu that pops up when you press "S"). Your steps level up your character as well as your pets. In fact, fully leveling up all six pets requires over 19,000 steps, so you will earn this trophy naturally while working towards Gotta Raise 'Em All! (silver).

Challenged vending machine 100 times

This trophy's description is slightly misleading: you must use the "Monomono Yachine" from the Extras menu 100 times (you can just put 1 Monocoin in each time), not the "Vending Machine" in the Extras menu.

Obtained all types of items in vending machine

This trophy can be earned after getting at least 344 Monocoins (ideally, you shouldn't bother with this trophy until you have The 1 Percent (bronze)). You can either go to the Rocketpunch Market on the 1st Island, or from the Main Menu select Extras -> Vending Machine. Simply buy 1 of each item to unlock this trophy.

Cleared all stages of Magical Miracle Girl Monomi

After completing the game, select "Magical Miracle Girl Monomi" from the main menu. This starts a 6-stage minigame in which you play as Monomi and fight against the 5 Monobeasts (to attack, hold "S" and circle around enemies). Clear all 6 levels (on any difficulty) to earn this trophy. You will have to replay this game a lot to earn Monomi Won't Miss These, Right? (gold).

Collected every possible item in Magical Miracle Girl Monomi

This is one of the grindiest trophies in the game. In the "Magical Miracle Girl Monomi" minigame (see A Magical Ending (bronze)), you sometimes earn equipment (which look like gift boxes) when you defeat an enemy. There are a total of 60 different pieces of equipment that you may earn in this way, and you need to earn each and every one of them (a full list of all 60 pieces can be found here).

Some equipment is only dropped in certain stages or on certain difficulty settings. However, every piece of equipment is dropped on Stage 6 (the "Special" stage) on Normal difficulty. So to get this trophy, replay Stage 6 on normal difficulty over and over (and over) until you have all 60 pieces of equipment.

Important: Wearing the "Old Man's Grass Skirt" underwear increases the amount of equipment that enemies drop, so wear it as soon as you find it.

Unlocked all gallery items

For this trophy, you must purchase every item from the Event Gallery, Movie Gallery, Artwork Gallery, and Sound Gallery in the Extras menu. These items cost about 1200 Monocoins in total, so this will be one of the last trophies you earn. Most of these items will unlock naturally as you play through Story Mode, but 7 items require special attention to unlock.

There are six events in the Event Gallery that you will likely need to replay pieces of Story Mode to unlock. Each of these events require you to have a certain item in your inventory before they will unlock (these are the six items that cost 50 Monocoins at the Vending Machine).

  • Chapter 1, Daily life (need Replica Sword (#104)): Talk to Kazuichi Soda right after breakfast on the first day (before going to Jabberwock Park). The scene will play after the scene at Jabberwock Park.
  • Chapter 1, Daily life (need An An Aan (#105)): Talk to Mahiru Koizumi before breakfast on the second day. The scene will play after breakfast.
  • Chapter 2, Daily life (need Man's Nut (#106)): Talk to Mahiru Koizumi right after breakfast on the first day.
  • Chapter 3, Daily life (need R/C 4WD Battler Taro (#113)): Talk to Kazuichi Soda in the hospital on the first day in the patient's room when everyone is there.
  • Chapter 3, Daily life (need Toy Camera (#61)): Talk to Hiyoko Saionji before breakfast on the second day. The scene will play after breakfast.
  • Chapter 3, Daily life (need Summer Festival Tree (#111)): Talk to Ibuki Mioda before breakfast on the second day. The scene will play right before night time.

Finally, the last movie in the Movie Gallery requires you to read the entire Novel (listed on the game's main menu). You can just fast-forward through it with "O" if you want to.

Cleared a class trial without taking any damage

To earn this trophy, your influence gauge (indicated by hearts at the top-right corner of the screen) can not decrease at all, which means that you can never choose a wrong piece of evidence, fire a truth bullet at a statement that you shouldn't, or otherwise screw up. Fortunately, you can save and reload during the trial in case you mess up without voiding this trophy. Furthermore, you can play on the easiest difficulty setting for this trophy if you want to, and you can replay class trials via Chapter Select. Also, a rough guide for the Chapter 1 trial is given below, as that is the easiest place to earn this trophy.

Earning this trophy will also earn you Case Closed (bronze), and it can easily be done at the same time as I'm Sorry, What Were You Saying? (bronze).

Destroyed 500 white noise lines across all class trials

This trophy requires you to shoot down (with "X") 500 "white noise" lines (the purple lines of dialog that appear in some class trial events as long as your Action difficulty level is set to "Kind" or "Mean"). You can farm this by just not selecting the right answer in these events – just repeatedly shoot down the white noise lines without selecting any answer, and the event will repeat over and over while a (very generous) timer winds down. You can hold down "O" to speed this process up.

Note: You can change the difficulty level before any class trial, so don't worry if you accidentally choose "Gentle" difficulty when starting the game.

Cleared a class trial without using your Concentration skill once

The Concentration skill is used by pressing the R button (right trigger) on your Vita. Simply don't press it at all during a class trial. This can be done on Chapter 1's class trial, and it can be earned via Chapter Select if you miss it your first time through.
