Childhood's Beginning is a hidden gold trophy Gold trophy.png in Bloodborne. It is part of the base game and does not require any DLC to earn.

This is one of the game's three ending trophies, along with Yharnam Sunrise (gold) and Honouring Wishes (gold).

After defeating Mergo's Wet Nurse, return to Hunter's Dream. To trigger this ending, you first need to obtain three items called "One Third of Umbilical Cord". There are actually four of these in the game, but you only need three, so choose the three that are easiest for you to obtain:

  • Dropped by Mergo's Wet Nurse (story-related and unmissable).
  • Located in the abandoned workshop (see The Source of the Dream (silver) for a guide to finding this place).
  • (missable) In the hidden upper rooms of Iosefka's Clinic (see Cainhurst (silver) for a guide that explains how to get here), there is a woman on a table who complains that she is nauseous. Kill her, and she will drop One Third of Umbilical Cord. If you go here too early in the game (before the boss battle with Rom, the Vacuous Spider), she will be hostile and you will not get the umbilical cord, so make sure you leave this until after defeating Rom.
  • (missable) Tell Arianna about the safe place at the Cathedral (not the Clinic!). If you then visit her between the Cathedral Ward and the Tomb of Oedon after defeating Mergo's Wet Nurse, she will give birth to a baby. Kill the baby to obtain One Third of Umbilical Cord.

Note that some players have trouble getting either the third or fourth Umbilical Cord to appear, so to make it easy on yourself, try to satisfy the conditions for both of them.

Once you have three of these items, use all three of them in the items menu. This will give you some insight and it will enable you to unlock this ending. Finally, go through the iron gate near the bottom of Hunter's Dream and talk to the man in the wheelchair. Choose the bottom option, "Refuse". You will then fight the man in the wheelchair (see Honouring Wishes (gold) for strategies for this boss), and after he dies you will have to fight another boss called Moon Penance.

Moon Penance is much like the other big bosses in the game, in that the most important tip (by far) is to stay behind it or to its side. Once it gets low on health, it starts using a devastating attack that takes you down to 1 HP. While healing is of course a priority after this happens, the boss will also completely stop moving for several seconds and be open to many attacks, so you can perhaps be a bit greedy.
